If you had told me seven years ago, that I’d still be book blogging, I’m not sure how I would have reacted. Probably joyfully. When I started the blog, it was a way for me to escape my physical confines. I was really really sick seven years ago. I couldn’t go out and watch movies or meet friends for lunch. Reading was the one thing I could do that would take me anywhere. Experience anything and everything.
And blogging, was an amazing way for me to share my escape with others. I didn’t even know that blogging was a thing. My first website was on CityMax, and it was an atrocious site to work on. Every review was listed as an ‘item’ in a shop, and all of the items had prices listed ($0.00). The first review I posted was for Griffin’s Castle by Jenny Nimo (it was a negative review.) The first comment I got was from my kindergarten teacher. She commented on misspellings on my homepage. My second comment was someone who was angry at my somewhat critical review for The Hunger Games. My first ARC was The Bandits by ML Preston (who, seven years later, is sending me a copy of the sequel). My first arc from a big publisher was Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry (I think. Also, she’s still one of my favorites). Gosh, I remember my mom opening a random page without my permission and yelling at me for its contents.
My first conference was the BEA in 2012. I got to meet some of my favorite authors. I even got an authors first ever signed book (False Memory by Dan Krokos). I went to conferences every year since then. How crazy… And I definitely wouldn’t have believe it if you told me where my life would be seven years later.
My life in general has been one major plot twist after another. This site has been integral in my life for the last seven years. It’s sustained me, and at times, it saved me. It hasn’t been the only thing that saved me though. The person who has saved me the most is my father.
And he’s been such a trooper throughout everything. I wish there was some way I could repay him. I’ll probably be searching for a way my whole life. He goes to conventions with me, lugs books around and makes sure I eat something once in a while so I don’t pass out on the floor. But those are largely superficial reasons.
He only occasionally complains about how many books I have. He puts up with all my oddities and generally just makes me feel loved. When I say he saved my life I mean it literally. In my darkest times, he stayed with me.
For that reason, I’m dedicating the blog’s next year to him. He really deserves so much more, but for now, this blog is all I have.
So here’s to dad, and the next year of blogging and life in general.
GUYS GUYS GUYS I’m so excited. Seventh Blogiversary? I can’t believe I’ve been doing this for SEVEN YEARS. That’s like 14 years in dog-time, and like forever in the book blogging world. I can’t believe I’ve made it this long. I’ve also been feeling really great lately, so I’ve been more consistent at blogging than I have in the past. Not perfect, but it’s an improvement.
To celebrate, I’ll be publishing a series of posts I’ve been hoarding for a while. There are a few personal reasons this content wasn’t published sooner, but I figured this weekend would be the perfect time to release them into the wild. So not only will I have tons of amazing content, but I’ll also be hosting a GIVEAWAY. YES. A GIVEAWAY. It’s $25 USD worth of gift card to The Book Depository. That’s right, man. I know it’s not a lot of money technically, especially when it comes to books. Hey, I’m a college student, I only have so much to give.
I’m excited all the same, because that’s $25 dollars worth of books you couldn’t have otherwise.
So without further ado, here’s a tentative list of content I’ll be publishing in the next week. I’ll add live links as I go.
12th – Interview with Kathleen Baldwin – Rescheduled
14th – Yallwest Recap post
16th – Waiting on Wednesday, ArcAugust post
17th – Interview with Marie Marquardt
18th – Interview with Sarah Nicole Lemon
The giveaway will run all the way through to Monday the 21st!
And, though it’s not a part of the Blogiversary week, I will have a review or two up next weekend. And, keep your eyes peeled for more giveaways the rest of the year.
So now, for the part you are all actually here for, the actual:
